Our Breeding Rats

Meet our breeding rats! We select our breeders based on temperament and genetics. We look for sweet-tempered females that will make wonderful, caring mothers, and fathers that are friendly and calm. All of our breeding rats are offered lots of enrichment and many healthy treats. To us, they are not just breeders, they are family pets.

Female rats only breed for about a year before they retire, so this page will be routinely updated as we add new rats to our program and allow others to retire from breeding. Retired breeders may be listed for sale so watch for posts on our Available Rats page alongside our available litters.

**We recently updated some of our listings to change ‘rex” to “velveteen.” We had been keeping the gene single in our lines and recently decided to double it. To our surprise, instead of patchy/naked babies we got adorably plush babies – double velveteen! Our original “rex” must have been mislabeled. We apologize for any inconvenience and are very excited to work more double velveteens into our breeding lines!

Whiskers

Whiskers is a beautiful Russian blue Berkshire. She is very friendly and curious and has a super sweet personality! She is a carrier for Siamese, ruby eyes, and dumbo.

Pineapple

Pineapple is the daughter of Whiskers and Smoke. She is a beautiful Russian Beige dumbo velveteen. She loves to munch on fresh carrots!

Bonk is a stunning agouti silvermane. She is the daughter of Peanut and Ash. Her favorite activities include eating bananas and grooming my husband. She is a fantastic mom and a wonderful addition to our breeding program.

Pickles is a beautiful Siamese dumbo. He is a big boy! He loves to snuggle and munch on cheerios.

Smoke

Smoke is an adorable Russian blue dumbo velveteen male. He loves to eat bell peppers and broccoli! He also carries albino, mink and ruby-eye.

Ash

Ash is a super sweet silvermane dumbo male. He is calm and very friendly. He is a carrier for Russian blue!

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a super sweet Russian blue dumbo. His parents were Whiskers and Smoke. He also carries Siamese, mink, and ruby eye.

Retired Breeders

Rats usually retire at between 12 and 15 months of age. They may be sold or they may be loved and cared for by us. Our breeding rats are not just breeders, they are beloved pets to our family.

Snoopy is a black hooded male. He has a wonderful temperament and is very cuddly!

Coconut – RETIRED

Coconut is the daughter of Whiskers and Smoke. She is a beautiful Russian Beige velveteen and a carrier for dumbo. She is sweet as can be and loves to explore in the play area!
